The Jews under Roman Rule
The Emperor Augustus turned the kingdom of Judah into the Roman province of Judea. The Romans still allowed the Jews to practice their religion, but they treated them cruelly. The Jews rebelled against the Romans. The Romans then retook Jerusalem 10 years later. The Romans banned the Jews from living in Jerusalem.
There was a Jew named Jesus that grew up in the town of Nazareth. After Jesus’ death his disciples proclaimed that he had risen from the dead. Christian missionaries spread Christianity throughout the Roman world. The Romans wanted the Jew’s to worship the emperor but the Jew’s refused to recognize the emperor as a god. Then, Romans feared that because the Christians did not believe in their gods they would be punished. In the Romans reaction, was to kill any Christians who didn't give up their religion. Many Christians became martyrs or people who die for their religion. Prosecution continued until AD 300’s. I got my information from my World History book (Mounir A. Farah, Andrea Berens Karls , 1999) (Pg. 171-172)
